About Your Hair
Natural Hair Type: 3B, 3C, 4A
How long have you been natural? And why?
I have been natural for four years now. Bre from America’s Next Top Model was my first inspiration to go natural. I am very quick when making decisions so I decided to big chop after transitioning for four months. I kind of feel into transition because I didnt know that was what it was called back in 2010.
Describe you hair.
My hair represents my personality. Carefree with a mind of its own. I love everything about my hair and I dont really have any problem areas with it. I guess I just embrace it and love it for what it is.
What is your hair goal?
My ultimate hair goal is for it to be long and healthy. I would like it to be hip length when straight and at least bra strap length when curly.
Favorite Hair Styles: Wash n Gos, Braid Outs and Buns are my favorite hair styles!
What is your current hair regimen?
My current hair regimen is as follows: Once a week I deep condition my hair using either The Mane Choice Deep Conditioner or (new) Organix Moroccan Argon Oil Deep Conditioner. I flip flop between the two. I then either sit under by hair steamer for 15-20 minutes with the deep conditioner in my hair or I put on a plastic cap for about 45 minutes. I then rinse my hair with cool water and normally I do a wash n go using Mixed Chicks leave in conditioner. I separate my hair in four sections and saturate my hair with the leave in. I let my hair air dry and when its 90% dry I diffuse my hair for extra volume and to complete the drying process. In between deep conditioning I normally do my wash n go over. I use Aussie Moist to detangle my hair in the shower and then repeat the same styling with Mixed Chicks Leave In.
How do you maintain your hair at night?
At night I sleep with my hair in a pineapple (a high loose pony tail) and I sleep on a satin pillowcase.
How do you maintain healthy length?
I retain length by keeping my hair moisturized. My hair hair loves water so I re do my hair about every three days to avoid dryness and breakage.
How did family and friends react to your decision to go natural?
My family hated that I chopped off all of my hair. They thought I was crazy for doing it in the beginning. My friends were supportive and very excited. A lot of the told me that I inspired them to go natural.
What has been the most memorable part of your journey?
The most memorable part of this whole journey has been being able to help so many newly naturals in their journey. It great to be able to help people see their natural beauty and love who they naturally are.
Any inspirational words for the readers?
One of my favorite sayings from my favorite Youtuber: Shameless Maya aka Maya Washington is “DO YOU BOO” I love it because thats how I think everyone should live their lives. Dont worry about everyone else’s opinions, just do what makes you happy. Life is too short to worry about the opinions of others so just DO YOU BOO! Also to live in love! There is enough negative energy in the world so take every opportunity to be positive and spread your light and love!
